Minihydro Modules AS is a Norwegian technology company focused on the development, industrialization, and commercialization of standardized modular hydropower solutions for international markets. Established in Bergen as a joint venture between MiniHydro Norge AS, WWS Wasserkraft GmbH (Austria), and Controlteam AS, the company builds on decades of experience within hydropower engineering, automation systems, and renewable energy development.

Low Head Concept
Threshold-based modular low-head hydropower concept for scalable cascade installations along rivers using standardized turbine-generator modules currently optimized for 2 and 4 meter head applications. The modular design enables simplified construction, flexible deployment, reduced environmental impact, and cost-efficient renewable energy production adapted to local site conditions.
STGM Concept
The STGM (Standardized Turbine Generator Modules) concept is a modular inline hydropower concept where the turbine and generator are integrated into a single compact unit installed directly within the pipeline. The standardized STGM design enables simplified installation, scalable deployment, reduced civil works, and cost-efficient renewable energy production for a wide range of hydropower applications.
Project Development & Technology Services
Minihydro Modules AS provides flexible business models and engineering services tailored to hydropower developers, utilities, industrial partners, and technology providers worldwide. Our services include: i) EPC deliveries of modular hydropower systems for international projects ii) Licensing of proprietary hydropower technologies and concepts to qualified partners and suppliers iii) Planning, engineering, and project development services for hydropower developers and investors We work closely with local and international partners to deliver scalable, cost-efficient, and sustainable renewable energy solutions adapted to site-specific requirements.
The development of the company’s two main concepts — the Low Head Concept and the STGM Concept — has so far involved investments totaling close to EUR 4 million. Parts of these activities have been supported by funding from the European Commission, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, and the Research Council of Norway through European and national research and innovation programmes, including Horizon Europe.
This international support reflects strong recognition of the technologies’ innovation potential, technical quality, and contribution to sustainable renewable energy development and the green energy transition.
By integrating the results from these R&D projects into Minihydro Modules AS, the company is uniquely positioned to commercialize standardized and modular hydropower solutions for international markets. Our ambition is to make low-head and modular hydropower more accessible, scalable, and cost-efficient — enabling sustainable energy production from previously underutilized water resources.
